What do we offer
MFIs can apply for TA at the Social Microfinance Foundation. The application process starts by sending the application form to SMF. Once the application form is reviewed by SMF, the MFI will be informed on the following steps. In some cases, a TA needs assessment of three days will be implemented in order to examine the current and future operations of the MFIs and to investigate the specific TA needs.
Decision making
- During the application period and TA needs assessment, MFIs will be considered for a TA trajectory.
- On the basis of this advice, the Board of SMF will decide whether the MFI will receive TA through SMF.
- When MFIs are considered as eligible by the Board, a TA package will be designed together with the MFI.

Providing Technical Assistance
- Once the Board decides favourably for the MFI and the TA request is formulated, local TA providers will be contracted for specific TA components. SMF hires local consultants and companies specialized in, for example, microfinance operations, governance issues and triple bottom line financing.
- SMF supports TA trajectories through a hand holding approach. TA trajectories can continue from 3 months up to 2 years.
